Surplus Docket is a public records data intelligence platform that indexes tax deed surplus and excess proceeds filings from county court registries. We are not a law firm, financial advisor, or Consumer Reporting Agency as defined under 15 U.S.C. § 1681.

2.1 Public Records Data

Our core product aggregates publicly available government records from county tax collector offices, clerk of court registries, and state comptroller databases. This data is already in the public domain and its collection does not involve any private or personal information gathering.

2.2 Account & Subscription Data

When you subscribe to our Service, we collect:

• Name and professional contact information (email address, law firm name)
• Subscription tier and billing status

We do not collect, process, or store credit card numbers, bank account details, or other financial payment instruments. All payment processing is handled exclusively by Stripe, Inc., our PCI DSS-compliant payment processor.

2.3 Inquiry Form Submissions

If you submit an inquiry through our contact form, we collect the information you voluntarily provide (name, email, message content) solely to respond to your request.

2.4 Analytics Data

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, cookie-free analytics platform. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR. All analytics data is aggregated and anonymized — we cannot identify individual visitors.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Deliver daily structured public records intelligence feeds to subscribers
• Process and manage subscriptions via Stripe
• Respond to inquiries and support requests
• Improve our Service through anonymous, aggregated usage analytics
• Send transactional emails (subscription confirmations, daily feeds, trial notifications)

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We share data only with:

5. Cookies & Tracking

Surplus Docket does not use cookies, localStorage tracking pixels, or fingerprinting techniques. Our analytics provider (Plausible) is entirely cookie-free. No consent banner is required because no cookies are set.

6. Data Retention

Subscriber account data is retained for the duration of an active subscription and for 90 days following cancellation. Inquiry form submissions are retained for 12 months. Anonymous analytics data is retained indefinitely in aggregated form.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to: know what personal information we collect; request deletion of your personal information; opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information); and non-discrimination for exercising your rights.

Our Service is designed for licensed attorneys and legal professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
